FAQ

Common Questions

Do I need a boating license? +

Rhode Island does not require a license to operate a motorboat or pontoon. For the Osprey (Laser sailboat), we ask that you have prior sailing experience. We'll do a quick skills check before you head out.

What's included with the rental? +

All rentals include life jackets, a safety briefing, navigational charts, a VHF radio, and a full tank of fuel. The Breakwater also includes a Bimini top, bluetooth speaker, and swim ladder.

What if the weather is bad? +

We monitor conditions closely. If we determine it's unsafe to go out, we'll reschedule at no charge. If you'd prefer to cancel instead, we offer a full refund for weather cancellations.

Where do I pick up the boat? +

All boats depart from New Harbor, Block Island. We'll send you the exact slip location when we confirm your booking.

How far in advance should I book? +

Summer weekends fill up fast. We recommend booking at least 1–2 weeks in advance for July and August. Weekdays are generally more available on shorter notice.

Is there a deposit? +

We collect a 50% deposit to hold your date. The balance is due the morning of your rental. We accept all major credit cards.
